EVP Volleyball Tournaments FAQ's
Q. What is the EVP?
A. The Extreme Volleyball Professionals (EVP) supports professional and amateur volleyball and is the largest pro-am tour in America. They were founded in 1994 and now offer 5 divisions for every skill level player.
Q. What are the EVP Formats?
A. The EVP has coed 2's, women's 2's, men's 2's, and master's (over age 35) 2's formats. There are no 4's.
Q. How does the Arizona EVP ranking system work?
A. In the beginning, there will be 3 divisional tournaments. "BB" for the beginners, who are learning the game (once a player has won 3 times at a BB level they will be required to register as a B/A player); "B/A" for intermediate/competitive players, who understand the game; and "AA/AAA" for highly competitive players, who are competing at a higher level. It is VERY IMPORTANT to understand that B players that play against A and AA players that play against AAA will still earn points for their respective divisions. For example, if there are 8 teams that are registered for AA/AAA, then the top 4 teams will earn AAA points and the bottom 4 teams will have their choice of earning AAA points or taking double the points in AA. Players that are ranked in the top 8 in AAA cannot take AA, A, B, or BB points. Once a player's ranking falls below the top 8 players in points of AAA, that player will be eligible to take double the points in AA.
As the competition grows and AAA players are taking double AA points, then AA players that fall below the top 8 in points in their respective division may be eligible to play in A/B tournaments. The transition in points from AA to A will be determined by the tournament director. Also, AAA and AA players that play with unrated players will be evaluated based on other Arizona tournament finishes before they are eligible to play in a B/A tournament.
Once there are 100 total players there will be an alignment based on total points earned. The top 20 players will be ranked as AAA, players 21-40 will be ranked AA, players 41-60 will be ranked A, 61-80 will be ranked B and 81-100 will be ranked BB. Please note that some AA players may be aligned as AAA players because they are in the top 20; just as A players may be aligned as AA players because they are ranked within the top 40 and so on.
Q. Who can play in an EVP event?
A. ANYONE can play in the EVP. Players do not need a card to participate but if a player wants their points recorded and to count for national seeding, then they will need to buy an EVP captain, manager or tour player card. Players can play with different partners, players do not need to play with the same partner in each tournament.
Q. How much are the EVP cards?
A. The EVP cards range from $25.00 to $100.00 and are good for one year. Click here for details.
Q. When are the Arizona EVP Tournaments?
A. Click here to view a complete schedule.
Q. Why the EVP versus other tours?
A. Besides focusing on amateur players as well as professional players, the biggest difference between the EVP tour and other tours is that all player's EVP points are equal between states. For example, a "AAA" player that earns 150 points in Arizona will have the same value as a "AAA" player that earns 150 points in Florida.
Q. What does this mean for you as a player?
A. The Sand Club is sponsoring 8 Arizona players to represent our region in the EVP National Championship on September 28th, 2012 (location TBA): 2 women, 2 men, and 4 junior players that are 18 years of age or younger. These players will get a $100 Tour Card and free entry into the EVP National Championship. Plus, we Arizonians will get to travel to a big tournament and cheer for our local players. We feel this is a bright future for sand volleyball.
Q. What are the prizes for Arizona EVP tournaments?
A. • Sparkling Water will provide giveaways at select tournaments for all players
• BarTab will provide giveaways as well as BarTab credit for 1st and 2nd place winners at select tournaments
• Sentry Insurance will be offering t-shirts for 1st and 2nd place winners at select tournaments
• Sand Slam will have a significant cash prize (TBA)
• City-vs-City tournament registration will only be $20/player with an EVP Captain Card, essentially awarding every player a $10 savings rather than charging $30/player and having cash prizes.
This is a decision that may be subject to change based on the players' opinions.
